The Mizuta school forged swords mainly in the Bicchu Mizuta area, but also in the surrounding areas of Azae, Matsuyama, and Ebara. Saemonjo Kunishige, Sahei Kunishige and Jyusuke Kunishige are representative of the Ko-Mizuta school.
they moved from Bingo and Bizen in the late Muromachi period to form their own school. This work is an shobu-zukuri wakizashi with a two-character 'Kunishige' mei,. The blade has a hitatsura hamon with ara-nie, with the entire sword blade composed of midare, tobi-yaki and muneyaki temper lines.
It is a classic late Muromachi period style of the Bicchu Mizuta school.
