The Vortex series of practical cutting swords from Moritaka have developed a following amongst practitioners and newcomers alike, and with good reason - made for those who cut or are learning cutting and have a budget to work with. All of the swords in the series feature a forged, through-hardened 9260 spring steel blade that has excellent flexibility characteristics yet great edge retention on soft targets. Each model has a unique Tsuba guard, made from blackened iron. The handles are tightly wrapped, with authentic ray skin and iron furniture, double-pinned Mekugi, and smooth transitions and knots. The slim Saya are black Ishime textured and finished with buffalo horn Koiguchi, Kurikata, and Kojiri. Great to wear as a Daisho! These are practical cutters that are meant to be enjoyed!
The vortex comes with a mildly sharp edge because some people want to use them for Iai, and others for bamboo cutting which super sharp edges will roll. It is fine for tatami as is.
